I'm proud of you, My Son

Llore de emoción cuando lei esta parte de la evaluación:

...In addition to your formal accomplishments, you proved yourself to be a keen and insightful philosopher. You were quick to identify some bad arguments that Socrates makes in Plato's Apology, pointing out that Socrates' attacks on Meletus' character are irrelevant to the issue of Socrates' guilt or innocence. This shows that you are willing to criticize bad argument wherever it occurs—a sure philosophic virtue. You were also unafraid to adopt unpopular opinions in class discussion. A particularly impressive instance of this was when you, in the face of objections from all of your classmates, claimed that there is no reason to refrain from plugging into the experience machine. This was a surprising and interesting stance to take and you exhibited another philosophic virtue—honesty—when you later revised your view in light of class discussion and decided that you would not want to plug in. You also excelled at presenting information to the class in an entertaining and educative manner. The roles you played in your fallacy skits were always memorable—first as a TV personality demanding unqualified authority and finally as the wearer of the "Socratic Hat."

Jose, Linda and I enjoyed having you in class these past three weeks. The skills you learned will serve

you well in your future studies. I encourage you to continue to develop your philosophic interests.

Hello Mari
Congratulations to your son, Jose! What an achievement!!! My oldest son is also a member of the Hopkins CTY program! We attended an awards ceremony earlier in the year as we live close enough....this is where my brother went to college, and I attended as well and received a minor in German language (so many years ago!). :-)
